Boeing has agreed to settle with the US Department of Justice in a case involving the company’s negligence in covering up the installation of the MCAS software from the FAA, resulting in two Boeing 737 Max planes crashing in 2018 and 2019. They have agreed to pay a fine of 243.6 million dollars or 8,900 million baht.
Prior to this, Boeing had already paid fines amounting to 2.5 billion dollars in 2021. In addition to the fines, Boeing is also required to invest in building an internal control system worth 455 million dollars, along with allowing representatives from the US Department of Justice to oversee and ensure safety improvements are up to standard.
This agreement mandates that company executives must meet with the families of the deceased. However, some families express dissatisfaction, stating that the settlement is too lenient for the company and are calling for fines of up to 25 billion dollars.
