Stability AI, the company behind the Stable Diffusion image model, has announced changes to its executive team. Emad Mostaque has stepped down from his position as CEO and board member of the company. Shan Shan Wong will serve as interim CEO, while Christian Laforte will be the interim CTO.
Mostaque cited his departure as a strategic move to focus on Decentralized AI. The board of Stability AI will begin the search for a new CEO following Mostaque’s resignation. This comes after reports of high-level executives leaving Stability AI in recent months, while the business model continues to struggle with high monthly expenses and stagnant revenue.
Mostaque emphasized in a post on X the importance of not succumbing to Centralized AI and instead advocating for Decentralized AI. He believes that the future lies in distributed AI models such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
