Cessation of Bobby Kotick’s Activision Blizzard CEO Tenure at the Close of 2023, Paving Way for Philanthropic Pursuits

Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, will remain in his position until the end of 2023, ensuring a smooth transition into the Microsoft era. After that, he will step down from his role to focus on philanthropic work.

In an email to employees, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, confirmed that starting from now, Kotick will report directly to him and will continue as the CEO of Activision Blizzard until the end of the year. During this time, Spencer will embark on a journey to visit various studios within the Activision Blizzard family.

Kotick revealed to Bloomberg that he plans to redirect his focus towards philanthropy, particularly in the areas of education and combating hatred and political differences in today’s society.

Kotick has been the CEO of Activision since 1991 when he came in to rescue the company from financial difficulties. He played a significant role in the merger that formed Activision Blizzard in 2008 and has held the CEO position ever since.
