Collaboration between Google and the Department of Health Studies the Value of Using AI for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

After teaming up with Google to research the use of artificial intelligence in analyzing diabetic retinopathy symptoms back in 2018, Ratchawithi Hospital reported that their analysis matches that of specialists since 2022. This project has now entered the implementation phase, with Google studying this alongside Thailand’s Department of Medical Services.

This study paves the way for collaboration between Perceptra, a medical AI company in Thailand, and the Department of Medical Services in utilizing AI for disease screening in the general population. Perceptra is one of three companies partnering with Google to implement AI technology. The other two companies are Forus Health and AuroLab from India. If successful, this collaboration is expected to screen 6 million patients within the next 10 years.

TLDR: Google collaborates with Thai medical AI companies to use AI for disease screening, potentially benefiting millions of patients in the future.
