Collaboration Between NASA and Microsoft: Developing Earth Copilot – A User-Friendly Tool for Accessing Global Geospatial Information Through Simple Q&A

NASA has announced a collaboration with Microsoft to develop tools for easier access to geographic, weather, and scientific data about the Earth. This effort has resulted in the creation of the Earth Copilot tool.

Earth Copilot is an artificial intelligence copilot that integrates with a massive database of over 100PB processed using Azure OpenAI services. Users can now inquire and receive answers about the state of the Earth’s environment.

Currently, NASA has valuable geospatial information available for access, but the complexity of the data format requires a high level of expertise to interpret. This limitation restricts the scope of awareness to researchers and scientists. However, if this data can be expanded into different formats to enhance awareness or utility for a wider audience, such as understanding the impact of storms or the effects on the environment during the COVID outbreak, it would be beneficial.

NASA’s Earth Copilot is currently in testing phase, limited to NASA scientists and researchers for initial feedback before public release.

TLDR: NASA and Microsoft collaborate to develop Earth Copilot tool for easier access to Earth’s data, currently in testing phase for NASA insiders.
