IDC Market Research Company reports that the PC market in the first quarter of 2024 grew by 1.5% compared to the same period in the previous year, with 59.8 million units shipped. This growth comes after two years of decline, mainly due to the low shipment base in 2023 (down 29% from 2022), which has now rebounded to pre-COVID levels.
The global market saw growth in all regions except China, where shipments continued to decrease, putting pressure on overall growth numbers, especially in the desktop segment. However, the introduction of AI PCs by Microsoft and PC upgrades purchased during the pandemic are expected to revitalize the PC market. Additionally, the increasing prices of AI PCs are beneficial for manufacturers.
Lenovo remains the market leader with a 23.0% market share, followed by HP at 20.1% and Dell Technologies at 15.5%.
TLDR: IDC reports that the PC market in Q1 2024 grew by 1.5%, rebounding from a two-year decline, driven by increased shipments and the introduction of AI PCs, with Lenovo leading the market.
