According to Android Authority, both iOS (including iPadOS 18, macOS 15) and Android now support ISO 21496-1, a standard for encoding gain map metadata of HDR images, allowing for cross-platform image display. Actual functionality depends on each app’s API integration.
Currently, Google Photos can display HDR images from iPhones, and premium browsers like Chrome and Edge also support ISO 21496-1 standard. This HDR feature is known as Ultra HDR on the Android side, starting from Android 14.
