Google announces enhanced transparency in line with AI Principles, stating that Google Photos’ image storage and editing service will now record data if the image is edited using Google AI within the Photos app starting next week.
Images edited with Google AI features such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and Zoom Enhance in Google Photos currently store metadata in accordance with IPTC standards, indicating the use of Generative AI for image editing. What’s new in this announcement is the display of this data within Google Photos.
In addition to AI-edited images, Google reveals that IPTC metadata will now include information if the image is created by blending multiple images together, a feature that does not utilize Generative AI like the Best Take feature in Pixel 8, Pixel 9, or Add Me in Pixel 9.

TLDR: Google implements AI Principles in Google Photos to enhance transparency by recording data when images are edited using Google AI features, incorporating metadata to indicate if images are created by combining multiple images together without using Generative AI.
