Enhancing App Store Consumer Experience: Augmenting the Conditional Discount Pricing Framework for Competitive Customer Sign-Ups

Apple has announced the development of a new pricing system called Contingent Pricing for subscription sign-ups on the App Store. This system allows developers to offer incentives to attract or retain users. Specifically, developers can add conditions for discounted subscription prices if a user is already subscribed to one service or if they subscribe to two services.

For instance, Apple explains that if someone is already subscribed to the Ocean Journal premium service (which is a competitor), they can receive a discounted price of $4.99 per month instead of the original $5.99 per month when they subscribe to our Mountain Climber service. This discount will only apply as long as the customer remains subscribed to the Ocean Journal and will revert to the original price if they cancel.

Apple states that this new pricing system is currently undergoing testing. Developers interested in utilizing this system can express their interest in advance, and Apple will provide further information in January.

TLDR: Apple has introduced a new pricing system called Contingent Pricing for App Store subscriptions, allowing developers to offer discounts based on certain conditions. This system is currently in testing, and more details will be provided in January.
