Twitch has announced a collaboration with OBS Studio and NVIDIA to unveil the Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting feature, which allows for simultaneous streaming of video content in three different levels of resolution.
One of the challenges faced by streamers today is determining the ideal resolution for streaming games, as viewers have varying internet speeds. Converting the original video resolution on the server side also poses issues with latency, causing delays in live streaming.
However, the solution lies in Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting. Rather than converting the video resolution on the server side, this feature enables streamers to send multiple video streams simultaneously, all starting from different resolutions. It’s like streaming three streams at once, but with the same content. This is made possible through the NVENC video encoding technology of NVIDIA graphics cards, both from the GTX and RTX series.
Currently, Twitch Enhanced Broadcasting supports streaming of up to three streams at a maximum resolution of 1080p. However, in the future, it will expand to support up to five streams at a maximum resolution of 4K. To achieve this, it will rely on the power of AV1 video encoding, which is exclusive to RTX 40 Series graphics cards.
To access this feature, users can register with Twitch and await approval from the platform.
