Meta has announced that in order to comply with the regulations of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), it has introduced additional options for users to control services and features. These options are specifically for users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland.
The additional options include:
1. The choice to share Instagram and Facebook usage data between accounts owned by the same user.
2. Facebook Messenger allows users to create a separate account from their main Facebook account.
3. Users can choose whether to provide personal data for improving their experience on Facebook Marketplace and Facebook Gaming.
4. There is an option to use the platform without ads by paying a monthly fee of 9.99 euros, which was recently launched.
These new options come into effect starting from March under the DMA regulations. As a result, we can expect to see more actions from platform providers identified as Gatekeepers.
TLDR: Meta has introduced new options for users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act. These options include data sharing, separate Messenger accounts, improved privacy features, and an ad-free paid subscription. These changes will come into effect in March.
