The Oversight Board, responsible for overseeing content control policies on Meta’s platforms, has announced an expansion of its responsibilities by adding content oversight for Threads, another platform. This expansion follows their oversight of content for Facebook and Instagram users since October 2020.
Effective immediately, Threads users (reportedly over 130 million) can appeal Meta’s decisions regarding content management to the Oversight Board. Cases that meet the criteria set by the Oversight Board will be reviewed and the decisions will be made public, similar to the process on Facebook and Instagram.
The Oversight Board, comprised of members from various disciplines, cultures, and expertise, operates independently from Meta’s control. Currently, it consists of 22 members.
