Explorations of Interfacing World of Warcraft with Consoles: Director’s Revelation on Perpetual Conversations Throughout

World of Warcraft, the popular MMORPG game that has been dominating the PC gaming scene for almost 20 years, has sparked a recurring question: Can it be released on consoles? This question has often been asked by media outlets, but the answers thus far have not been very satisfying. However, this year at BlizzCon 2023, Holly Longdale, the game’s executive producer, shed some light on this subject during an interview with Games Rader+.

When asked about the technical challenges or complexities preventing World of Warcraft from being released on consoles, Holly responded, “It depends on who you ask.” She further explained that the company is now increasingly interested in bringing the game to consoles, and discussions on this topic have been ongoing.

But Holly humorously added that the question is still premature because the team is currently focusing on Worldsoul Saga. She quipped, “I’m now an employee of Microsoft, in case you didn’t know.”

In addition to this, Holly revealed that the Warcraft team has had some interactions with Xbox Game Studios after the acquisition, but she couldn’t provide a clear answer about whether World of Warcraft will be released on Xbox Series S/X or if it will be available on PC Game Pass.

TLDR: After almost 20 years, World of Warcraft is considering a console release, according to Holly Longdale, the game’s executive producer. While technical challenges and the team’s current focus on Worldsoul Saga have delayed a definitive answer, discussions with Xbox Game Studios indicate potential future compatibility with Xbox Series S/X or PC Game Pass.
