Futuristic Threads: Unraveling the Nexus of Fediverse Connectivity in Times to Come

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram and Threads, has provided details about the plans to support connectivity with the Fediverse in the future. Threads already supports the ActivityPub protocol, including network connectivity, which was mentioned from the beginning.

Mosseri highlights the following points that are currently being planned:

Threads aims to add options for other platforms to follow public accounts on Threads, but this feature is still undergoing limited testing.

Public accounts on Threads must be open, and users must opt-in to enable this function. However, there is no conclusion yet, and it may be set as the default and opt-out.

Threads wants to display replies from other platforms on the Threads platform, but this feature is currently not working well.

Threads wants users to be able to follow external accounts within the Fediverse as well.

Surprisingly, Mosseri mentioned that Threads should have an option for users to migrate their accounts and followers to other platforms within the Fediverse.

Finally, Mosseri states that these are all the plans that Threads intends to accomplish, but it will take years to complete, and currently, it seems to be taking longer than expected.

TLDR: Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram and Threads, explains the future plans to support connectivity with the Fediverse. Threads aims to allow other platforms to follow public accounts, display replies from other platforms, and enable users to follow accounts in the Fediverse. Additionally, Threads plans to provide an option to migrate accounts and followers to other platforms within the Fediverse. However, the completion of these plans will take a considerable amount of time.
