GitHub Launches Copilot Chat: Answer Code Questions Directly from Visual Studio and VS Code

GitHub introduces Copilot Chat, a chatbot for code-related queries, available directly within the Visual Studio and VS Code applications. First launched in 2021, GitHub Copilot utilized AI for code completion, but lacked conversational abilities. Now, with the upgraded Copilot X system in early 2023, several additional features have been introduced, including Copilot Chat.

Now in its beta version, Copilot Chat offers real-time code reading and analysis capabilities. It assists in explaining how the code works and provides recommendations on addressing security vulnerabilities detected by the AI. However, currently, this feature is only available as an extension for two Microsoft IDEs: Visual Studio and VS Code.

In conclusion, GitHub has enhanced the functionality of Copilot with the integration of Copilot Chat, allowing users to have code-related conversations and receive real-time insights on their code within the familiar environments of Visual Studio and VS Code.

Copilot Chat provides real-time code analysis and explanations, along with security vulnerability recommendations.
