Google Confirms Swift Upgrades to Android’s Gemini App for Google Assistant Parity at Lightning Speed

Last week, Google unveiled Gemini and released the Android version of the app, albeit only available for download in the United States. An interesting aspect is that installing Gemini on Android will disable the original Google Assistant, aligning with Google’s new direction where Gemini will replace both Bard, Assistant, and DuetAI. Saying “Hey Google” or holding down the home button will summon Gemini instead of Assistant.

However, the problem lies in the fact that Gemini still lacks some features compared to the original Assistant. For example, it cannot command other apps to play music or podcasts, lacks Routines and Reminders, and even language translation capabilities.

Google acknowledges these issues, as stated by Jack Krawczyk, the Manager of Google’s Artificial Intelligence division, in his recent tweet. Krawczyk assures that Google will expedite the resolution of various shortcomings in Gemini, both in terms of missing Assistant features and others such as coding abilities. Additionally, Google plans to release Gemini in other countries as soon as possible.

TLDR: Google recently launched Gemini, a new app for Android users that replaces Google Assistant. While Gemini offers a fresh writing style, creative ideas, and fast responses, it still lacks certain Assistant features like playing music from other apps, Routines, Reminders, and language translation. Google is aware of these issues and promises to address them swiftly, as well as release Gemini in other countries.
