Google Extends Android OS Update Lifecycle for Pixel 6, 6a, 7, 7a, and Fold Devices from 3 to 5 Years

Following the recent news that Google released the Android 16 Beta update for the Pixel 6 series released in 2021, it can be seen as an extension of their promise to provide OS updates for 3 generations and security patches for 5 years. Recent findings indicate that on the Pixel Support page, Google has revised the wording for the Pixel 6, 6a, 7, 7a, and Fold smartphones to include 5 years of OS and security updates (extending OS updates to 5 years in addition to security patches). This means that even the oldest device in this lineup, the Pixel 6, will receive OS updates until 2026.

On the other hand, devices in the Pixel 8 series and beyond (including 8a, 9, and 9 Fold) are covered under a guarantee for extended updates for 7 years.
