Google Play Movies & TV on Android TV Discontinues Service in October, Transitions to Google TV App in Replacement

Google has announced the closure of its Google Play Movies & TV app on the Android TV platform on October 5, 2023, in order to transition to the Google TV app instead.

Google has been gradually rebranding for several years now, with the introduction of the new Google TV version in 2020, which allows users to purchase or rent digital movies. Following this, they began phasing out the Google Play Movies & TV app on other smart TV platforms in 2021 and the iOS version in 2022. Now, it’s finally time for their own smart TV platform’s turn.
