Google Unveils Latest Charger with Blazing Fast 45W Charging, While Pixel 9 Supports Ultimate 37W Fast Charging

Gleaning insights from the Pixel 9 launch event, Google unveiled a speedy 45W charger for its accessories, available separately at $29.99, without being bundled with the devices as expected by tech enthusiasts. However, what exceeds expectations is that none of the four sub-models of the Pixel 9 lineup support full-power 45W charging. The charging specs for the Pixel 9 series are as follows:

– Pixel 9 = 27W
– Pixel 9 Pro = 27W
– Pixel 9 Pro XL = 37W
– Pixel 9 Pro Fold = 21W

Comparing these specs to the previous Pixel 8 models (27W for Pixel 8 and 30W for Pixel 8 Pro), the increase in charging capabilities for the Pixel 9 Pro XL is marginal. Additionally, when compared to the first-generation Pixel Fold model supporting 30W fast charging, it’s evident that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has downgraded its charging specs.

Another intriguing point is that none of the Pixel 9 sub-models support the Qi2 wireless charging standard, which incorporates magnets compatible with Apple MagSafe. Google cites customer preference as the reason for omitting this feature, leaving all Pixel 9 models to support the same old version of Qi wireless charging as before.

TLDR: Google’s Pixel 9 accessories include a separate 45W charger, but none of the Pixel 9 models fully support this high-power charging capability. Additionally, all Pixel 9 sub-models lack compatibility with the Qi2 wireless charging standard, sticking to the old Qi version instead.
