Halting of International Credit Card Payments on Nintendo eShop Japan Effective March 25

Nintendo in Japan announced changes to the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store services in Japan. They will no longer accept credit cards issued by financial institutions outside of Japan and PayPal accounts outside of Japan. This will affect users in Thailand who use the Japanese store, mostly relying on Thai credit or debit cards.

These changes will take effect on March 25, 2025. Users in Thailand still have time to purchase desired content, potentially limited to the Japanese store during this period. Nintendo cited the need to prevent fraud and inappropriate usage as reasons for these changes, advising users to use payment methods issued by Japanese financial institutions instead.

TLDR: Nintendo Japan is altering payment methods for eShop & My Nintendo Store, no longer accepting foreign credit cards or PayPal accounts outside Japan starting March 25, 2025. Thailand users advised to use Japanese financial institution-issued payment methods.
