Apple has recently updated their support documents regarding Apple Maps, stating that users can now view maps through a browser on their iPhone. Previously, accessing Apple Maps on iPhone was only possible through the app.
Apple introduced Apple Maps for web viewing last year to accommodate users who do not use Apple devices. It supports major browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, but is limited to Mac and iPad and does not support iPhone.
One possible reason for Apple’s recent support for Apple Maps on Safari for iPhone is due to iOS 18.4 adding a feature where users in the EU could choose a default navigation app other than Apple Maps. Therefore, Apple had to add support for viewing shared links through a website if the device does not have the Apple Maps app.
Currently, Apple Maps on the web only supports English language.

TLDR: Apple now allows users to view Apple Maps on Safari for iPhone, as a response to a new feature in iOS allowing users in the EU to choose a default navigation app other than Apple Maps.
