Instagram’s Novel Feature Trial: Peek, Snap, Send Instantly, Untouched Images, Erased Upon Viewing

Alessandro Paluzzi, a seasoned app reverse engineer, has stumbled upon a novel feature on Instagram called Peek. This feature allows users to snap a photo, send it instantly without any edits or filters, and the recipient can only view it once before it gets deleted.

Meta has confirmed testing this feature internally and has not yet rolled it out to external users. Peek may not be a groundbreaking idea, as the concept of sending instant, unedited, and ephemeral photos already exists in platforms like BeReal and Snapchat. In fact, Instagram has previously experimented with a similar feature called Candid Stories, although it involved random time intervals for users, unlike Peek, which allows users to choose the timing of sending the photo.
