Pieces Interactive, the studio behind the Alone in the Dark remake (set to release in March 2024), has officially closed its doors under Embracer Group.
Founded in 2007, Pieces Interactive has a portfolio of 10 games, both self-developed and developed for other studios. Embracer acquired the studio in 2017 following their work on the expansion for the Titan Quest series.
According to IGN, Embracer’s decision to shut down Pieces Interactive was due to the underperformance of the Alone in the Dark 2024 remake, which received an average review score of 66/100 and lower than expected sales.
Embracer itself has been facing financial issues and has had to shut down several studios, as well as sell off parts of its business like Gearbox and Saber. Most recently, they announced the division of their business into 3 separate parts in April.
