Amazon has announced a collaboration with UVeye to develop an Automated Vehicle Inspection (AVI) system for checking abnormalities and the safety condition of delivery vehicles. UVeye is an Israeli start-up specialized in creating abnormality detection systems for vehicles, initially used in border areas or buildings but later expanded to general vehicle inspection.
The AVI system works similarly to a patient undergoing an MRI scan, with a doctor examining the results. In the case of AVI, the delivery vehicles will pass through a slow scanning device, after which the system will scan and process the data using AI in a matter of seconds. It will then generate a report on any detected abnormalities, which will be used to evaluate and send the vehicles for maintenance accordingly. Examples of abnormalities that can be detected include tire conditions and leaks in the cargo compartment.
With over 100,000 delivery vehicles worldwide and over 280,000 drivers, including those from the Rivian electric vehicle fleet, Amazon aims to enhance the efficiency of its delivery operations and ensure the safety of its drivers. The AVI system is currently being tested and installed in selected delivery centers, with plans to expand its implementation across the board.
TLDR: Amazon has partnered with UVeye to develop an Automated Vehicle Inspection system that can detect abnormalities and ensure the safety of its delivery vehicles. The system utilizes AI and scanning technology to quickly assess any issues and generate reports for maintenance. This collaboration aims to optimize Amazon’s delivery operations and enhance driver safety.
