Introducing C.C. Wei: The New Chief Executive Officer Handpicked by Mark Liu, Chairman of TSMC, as He Steps Down from His Role

TSMC, the world’s leading chip manufacturer, has announced that Dr. Mark Liu, the company’s chairman, will retire from his position and will not seek a position on the company’s board at the next annual shareholder meeting in June 2024. The Board of Directors and Sustainability and Governance Committee have proposed that Dr. C.C. Wei, the company’s Vice Chairman and CEO, assume the role of the new chairman, subject to approval by the shareholders’ meeting.

Dr. Mark Liu has been with TSMC since 1993 and took over as chairman from Dr. Morris Chang, who retired from the position in 2018. He stated that he will leverage his 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry for other purposes, including spending more time with his family.

On the other hand, Dr. C.C. Wei, the incoming chairman of TSMC, has been with the company since 1998, serving on the board since 2017 and becoming CEO in 2018 following Dr. Morris Chang’s retirement.
