Google has announced guidelines to address the challenges of information retrieval related to general elections, which will take place in multiple countries worldwide this year. The restriction on searching for election-related information on the Gemini chatbot has been in effect since today for users in the United States and India.
Google states that search queries related to elections must provide high-quality and accurate information. Therefore, searches related to this topic are limited to Generative AI products only, on par with other intrusive search queries that are already restricted.
For the upcoming general elections in India scheduled for April-May, Google has collaborated with local authorities to provide information in regular search results, election processes, relevant YouTube videos, and important news. This approach will be used for general elections in several other countries this year.
