ESIC Motors-CP Limited and MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand, have announced the opening of the first EV battery factory in the ASEAN region. This move positions Thailand as a hub for EV production in Southeast Asia.
MG has unveiled the battery factory named HASCO-CP BATTERY SHOP, located within the NEW ENERGY INDUSTRIAL PARK, covering a vast area of approximately 75 acres. The factory is divided into two main sections:
1. Battery Assembly: The battery assembly process involves automated production lines with the assistance of robotics, utilizing laser welding technology and CCD inspection at each stage, ensuring a 100% electric power integration into the vehicles.
2. Battery Testing: Stringent testing procedures for the batteries are conducted through more than 60 steps, including charge and discharge evaluation, air leak testing, insulation testing, and static energy control.
The HASCO-CP BATTERY SHOP has the capacity to assemble more than 50,000 battery cells per year, utilizing the Cell-To-Pack method. These batteries, produced in Thailand, will adhere to global manufacturing standards. They will be installed in the first electric vehicle model, the MG4 ELECTRIC, with the factory currently preparing for its official launch in 2024.
TLDR: ESIC Motors-CP Limited and MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd. have inaugurated the region’s inaugural EV battery factory, positioning Thailand as a focal point for EV production in Southeast Asia. The HASCO-CP BATTERY SHOP operates advanced robotic assembly lines and rigorous testing procedures, ensuring the integration of top-quality batteries into the MG4 ELECTRIC model. The factory is set to commence full-scale manufacturing in 2024.
