Microsoft is updating the messaging in the Windows Support documentation, stating that the Control Panel app, which has been alongside Windows since Windows 1.0 in 1985 (39 years ago), is on track to be deemed “outdated” (deprecated) and will be replaced by the Settings app.
The Settings app was introduced in Windows 8 and gradually transitioning by slowly incorporating features from Control Panel.
Microsoft’s documentation also specifies that the Control Panel still exists for compatibility reasons and some settings have not yet been moved into Settings, but Microsoft “recommends” using Settings whenever possible.
TLDR: Microsoft is phasing out the Control Panel app in favor of the Settings app, which is gradually taking over its features.
