Monetization Initiative: Twitter Introduction of USD 1 Annual Fee Empowers Tweeting, Replying, and Quoting; Pilot in New Zealand-Philippines

Twitter has announced the introduction of a new program called “Not A Bot” that allows users to access write-level features on the platform. These features include posting content (tweets), replying, retweeting, direct messaging, and bookmarking. However, users will have to pay a yearly subscription fee of $1 to avail of these privileges.

It’s important to note that this change only applies to new unverified accounts in New Zealand and the Philippines. Existing users and those who have already signed up for Twitter Premium or Twitter Blue are not affected. This program is currently in beta testing, meaning Twitter will evaluate its results before deciding whether or not to proceed.

According to Twitter, this test is aimed at reducing spam and bots, which have been a persistent issue on the platform. Not A Bot employs a low-cost subscription model (similar to Elon Musk’s previous suggestion) and is not intended for profit generation.

TLDR: Twitter is testing a new program called “Not A Bot” in New Zealand and the Philippines, where new users will have to pay a $1 annual subscription fee to access advanced features. Existing users and those with premium accounts are unaffected. This test aims to combat spam and bots and is not driven by profit motives.
