Naoki Yoshida, the director of Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy XIV (along with being the producer as well), revealed to Famitsu that if given the opportunity to create the next game, he would like to direct it himself.
In the past, Yoshida mentioned his desire to pass the baton to the next generation, but feels that at the very least, he should add his name to another game. He believes he does not want to be known for directing just one (big) game, and does not want Final Fantasy XIV to be considered his magnum opus.
Yoshida, at the age of 50, still enjoys snowboarding and the more he plays, the better he becomes. He feels that he is currently at his peak and believes he can continue to develop himself further, hence he does not want to set a ceiling for himself.

TLDR: Naoki Yoshida expresses interest in directing future games himself and does not want to be limited to being known for just one game.
