Nintendo Switch Sales in America Surpasses Best-Selling Wii

The Nintendo Switch has achieved another milestone in its sales, as the total sales of the console in the United States have surpassed the best-selling Wii. This accomplishment comes after the global sales of the Switch surpassed the Wii earlier this year in June.

According to Circana (formerly known as NPD), the total sales of the portable gaming system Nintendo Switch have now exceeded the Wii. This achievement has been made within a span of 6 years, with the Switch surpassing the Wii in July. However, Circana did not specify the exact number of units sold. On the other hand, IGN stated that approximately 49 million units of the Switch have been sold in America.

GamesIndustry.biz added that the current sales of the Switch are now less than 1 million units behind the Xbox 360 in the United States and less than 5 million units behind the PlayStation 2.

The continuous success of the Switch can be attributed to its strong lineup of 1st Party games in 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will lead the pack, followed by Metroid Prime Remastered and Pikmin 4. Furthermore, the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to release later this year.

Nintendo’s official website stated that the Switch has now sold over 129 million units as of June 30, 2023, surpassing the lifespan sales of the Wii which are currently at 101 million units.

The best-selling game on the Switch is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with 55.46 million copies sold. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ranks as the fourth best-selling game with 30 million copies sold, while Tears of the Kingdom is the ninth best-selling game with 18 million copies sold.
