October 2024 Programming Language Report – Python Holds Firm, Rust Gains Momentum

TIOBE has released its report on the popularity of programming languages for the month of October 2024, based on search numbers through various channels. The top 3 languages are Python, C++, and Java, similar to September (where Java surpassed C for the 3rd spot from the previous month).

CEO of TIOBE, Paul Jansen, commented on the rankings, indicating that developers are beginning to look for alternative languages to replace Python based on criteria of ease of learning, security, and speed of performance. He believes that languages like Rust or Mojo have the potential to fill this gap.

Rust has climbed to 13th place this month with a sharp increase in popularity, hinting at a possible entry into the Top 10 in the near future. Meanwhile, Mojo is a newcomer in the language scene, currently ranked at 49th place.
