PirateFi Game Uncovered on Steam for Data-Stealing Malware, Valve Removes Game Immediately

The realm of cybersecurity has uncovered a game on Steam that stealthily implanted malware, secretly pilfering data from players’ devices. The problematic game known as PirateFi by Seaworth Interactive is a survival-craft themed game set in the world of pirates. Approximately a week after its release, Valve detected the issue of malware infiltration and swiftly removed the game from the system. Users who downloaded the game were alerted to inspect their computers for any malicious elements.

Security company Secuinfra revealed that the embedded malware belongs to the Vidar family, clandestinely extracting various data from the device such as passwords and cookies. The malicious files masqueraded themselves within a file named pirate.exe. Unofficial data from SteamDB suggests that around 1,500 people have downloaded this game.
