Amazon Prime Video has announced the creation of “Like a Dragon” in a series format consisting of a total of 6 episodes. The first 3 episodes will premiere on October 25, with the final 3 episodes airing on November 1. This series is filmed and produced by a team from Japan.
The storyline will span two time periods, 1995 and 2005, exploring the friendships formed in youth and the consequences that follow after difficult decisions are made by the protagonist, Kiryu Kazuma, a man with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.
Directed by Masaharu Take, known for his work on the series “The Naked Director,” and starring Ryoma Takeuchi, a prominent Japanese actor who portrayed Shinnosuke Tomari in “Kamen Rider Drive” and previously played Red in the film “Pokémon Detective Pikachu.”
Additionally, Masayoshi Yokoyama, the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, will serve as the executive producer. Yokoyama expressed his desire to bring “Like a Dragon” to the small screen as an immersive experience, aiming to create the most captivating version of Kamurocho and Kiryu Kazuma possible. He believes that the series will appeal not only to gamers but also to those unfamiliar with the gaming world.
In the past, “Like a Dragon” was adapted into a film in 2007, directed by Takashi Miike, whose recent work includes the short film “Midnight” shot on an iPhone 15 Pro, but did not receive much acclaim and was eventually forgotten.
