Microsoft has notified organizational customers through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center that the New Outlook client will reach generally available (GA) status on August 1, 2024. The general consumer side of New Outlook has already been in GA status since September 2023.
The transition of New Outlook to GA status will only impact support through Microsoft channels. Microsoft is not enforcing the use of the new New Outlook just yet, and Outlook Classic will continue to be supported until 2029.
New Outlook has been criticized for lacking many key features that were present in Outlook Classic. Microsoft has made it easy to track features on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap to see when certain features will be implemented. For example, support for .pst files or email files from Outlook Classic is expected to be available by March 2025.
In addition, Microsoft has a Feedback Forum where users can provide input on desired features and vote on them similar to Reddit posts.
TLDR: Microsoft announces that New Outlook will become generally available on August 1, 2024, with criticism for missing key features present in Outlook Classic. Users can track feature updates on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap and provide feedback through the Feedback Forum.
