YouTube has updated the appearance of its app on smart TVs and gaming consoles, adjusting how some content is presented.
They have added a separate tab for Podcasts (located under the Home icon in the image) and introduced a new way of categorizing recommended videos called “shelves,” which are displayed horizontally like shelves. Some of the new shelves include “Continue your search” showing frequently searched items, “Listen again” featuring old songs you’ve searched or listened to before, “Live performance, remixes, and covers” which includes live versions, remixes, and covers separate from the official versions, and “From your top channels” listing channels you frequently watch.
They have separated the shelf for short videos, called Shorts, from regular videos in the Subscriptions tab to make it easier to find clips without mixing them with regular videos.
Additionally, YouTube has added the feature to display device usage statistics (Device Type) to show how we watch on TV, mobile, computer, tablet, and more. This feature is only available on the mobile app and web.
