Revealing the Specifications of the Next Iteration PS5 Pro: CPU with Boost Clock Locked at 15%, Bandwidth Enhanced Memory by 28%

Tom Warren of The Verge claims to have seen full specs of the PS5 Pro, codenamed “Trinity”, that align with previously leaked information.

The CPU, while equal in specs to the PS5, will have a boost clock increase from 3.5GHz to 3.85GHz (a 10% increase). Game developers can choose the CPU mode, and increasing the CPU clock will slightly decrease the GPU clock.

The GPU is the main selling point of the PS5 Pro, boasting up to 45% higher performance than the standard PS5, improved ray tracing architecture, and triple the power.

Memory bandwidth will increase from 448GB/s to 576GB/s (a 28% increase), with developers having access to more memory – going from 12.5GB to 13.7GB (a 1.2GB increase).

The PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution feature enhances frame rates and picture quality, with AI processing capabilities of 300TOPS (8-bit calculations), trading off 250MB of RAM usage with a 2ms latency for upscaling from 1080p to 4K.

Other details in the document indicate Sony will continue selling the standard PS5, requiring game developers to support both machines. Games originally released on the PS5 can receive patches to optimize for the PS5 Pro, and titles utilizing PS5 Pro features (such as ray tracing) will be labeled “Trinity Enhanced” (PS5 Pro Enhanced).

The Verge notes that Sony plans to have game developers send in games by August 2024 to coincide with the anticipated launch of the PS5 Pro by the end of the same year.

TLDR: The PS5 Pro, codenamed “Trinity”, boasts enhancements in CPU and GPU performance, memory bandwidth, and features like ray tracing. Game developers will need to support both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro, with games possibly receiving updates for optimized performance on the new console. Sony plans to launch the PS5 Pro in late 2024.
