Revisiting the Downvote Button on Facebook for Filtering Comments, Potentially Spammy ones Perceptions, Once Again

Facebook is currently testing the “downvote” button once again, but this time it’s not just for disagreeing with a comment. It’s designed to be used to flag unhelpful comments, in an effort to reduce spam, fake news, and disruptive comments that hinder conversation as part of their content spam management plan.

Meta has previously experimented with similar features, like emojis to express feelings, and a “thumbs-down” button in Messenger, but they were not well-received. However, this new version of the downvote button will focus more on content filtering rather than just being an additional comment reaction button. Some are questioning whether this will actually improve conversations on the platform or if it will eventually disappear like previous experiments.
