YouTube has announced a change in the way views are counted, specifically for Shorts videos. Instead of counting as 1 view if a video is watched in a single timeframe, it will now count instantly when the video starts playing or is replayed.
This change will take effect starting from March 31, 2025. Creators may notice an increase in Shorts views due to this change. Additional details include:
Shorts still track views with the traditional method, called Engaged Views, which can be viewed in creators’ analytics reports.
Other video formats will continue to count views as Views shown and Engaged Views as the same number.
Revenue sharing calculations for creators will still use Engaged Views as the primary measurement.
Currently, Shorts videos can be uploaded with a maximum length of 3 minutes.
