Testing the Waters: TikTok Explores Allowing Select Users to Upload 15-Minute Long Videos

TikTok is currently testing the ability for users in certain regions to upload videos with a longer duration. While the platform has not disclosed which regions are part of the testing phase, social media consultant Matt Navarra shared this information on his Threads. According to Navarra, TikTok has added a new option that allows users to upload videos up to 15 minutes long. This means that content creators will have more flexibility in creating videos without having to divide them into multiple parts, as was previously required. This strategic change in video length could position TikTok as a direct competitor to YouTube, which recently launched its own short-form video platform, YouTube Shorts. However, it is important to note that not everyone may be on board with TikTok’s extended video length. Regardless, TikTok seems to be aware of this concern and has recently introduced a new feature that allows users to skip ahead in videos by holding down the right side of the screen. As of now, TikTok has not announced a specific timeline for when users can expect the ability to upload 15-minute videos.

TLDR: TikTok is testing longer video uploads, potentially extending the platform’s competition with YouTube. Users may soon be able to upload videos up to 15 minutes long, offering more flexibility to content creators. However, it remains unclear which regions are part of the testing phase and when this feature will be available to all users.
