The Debut of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 Chip Unveils Robust Cortex-X4 Octa-Core CPU, Delivering Up to Four Cores.

MediaTek has officially launched its flagship SoC chip, the Dimensity 9300, as an upgrade to the previous year’s Dimensity 9200 model in 2022.

One interesting feature is the CPU configuration that MediaTek has chosen to use. It employs a 4+4 formula, with 4 high-performance Cortex-X4 cores running at a maximum clock speed of 3.25GHz, coupled with 4 Cortex-A720 medium cores operating at 2.0GHz. Unlike its competitor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which utilizes a 1+5+2 formula, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 stands out with its sole high-performance Cortex-X4 core.

The chip also boasts the Immortalis-G720 GPU on the graphics side, which is the latest offering from Arm, featuring a 12-core design. MediaTek claims that gaming performance has increased by 46% compared to the Dimensity 9200. Furthermore, in scenarios with equal performance, the chip consumes less than 40% of the energy.

Although this chip’s launch lacks AI features, it is unlikely to hinder sales. MediaTek has its own AI chip called APU 790, which exhibits improved performance in both integer and floating-point calculations and is eight times faster in processing Transformer models than its predecessor.

Other notable features include support for Wi-Fi 7 with a maximum speed of 6.5 Gbps, display capabilities of up to WQHD@180Hz and 4K@120Hz, 5G R16 modem support, LPDDR5T RAM with a bandwidth of 9600Mbps, the security feature Memory Tagging Extension (MTE), and a 4nm manufacturing process.

Smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 9300 are set to hit the market by the end of 2023.

TLDR: MediaTek has unveiled its flagship Dimensity 9300 SoC chip, featuring a unique 4+4 CPU configuration and the Immortalis-G720 GPU. The chip offers improved gaming performance, lower energy consumption, and enhanced AI capabilities. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, high-resolution displays, 5G R16, LPDDR5T RAM, and includes advanced security features. Smartphones with the Dimensity 9300 will be available in late 2023.
