The Efficiency of Australia Bank Ascertain After Employing GitHub Copilot Yields a 50% Enhancement in Programmer’s Performance

ANZ Banking Group recently reported the results of their software programmer testing after implementing GitHub Copilot as their programming assistant. On average, they found that the efficiency of their programmers improved by 50%.

To conduct the study, ANZ divided their programmers into two groups and assigned them various problem-solving tasks, totaling about 105. Afterward, they analyzed the average time taken by each group to solve the problems and discovered that the group using Copilot performed significantly better.

Currently, ANZ has implemented Copilot for 1,000 users and expects to have 3,000 users by the end of this fiscal year. They plan to expand the usage of Copilot gradually, taking caution due to the need to adhere to regulatory frameworks, especially for tasks involving sensitive data.

In addition to GitHub Copilot, ANZ has several other AI projects in different areas. This includes utilizing the Z-GPT model hosted within the company and exploring the potential use of Microsoft 365 Copilot for specific cases.
