The Latest Alexa Report Reveals LLM Not Yet Ready as Scheduled, Still Far from Service Readiness.

In the current wave of LLM trend, the original AI Assistant market leader Amazon seems to be falling behind its competitors and continuously losing ground. Recently, reports from both Fortune magazine and Yahoo! Finance cited interviews with individuals that the readiness of Alexa LLM still lags far behind expectations, despite previews released at the end of last year.

According to former Amazon employees interviewed by the magazines, the new iteration of Alexa will never catch up with the competition if Amazon refuses to let go of the old Alexa to focus on developing the new one. Even if the new version is finally unveiled, it will still struggle to compete.

Furthermore, some ex-employees also emphasized that Amazon has yet to figure out how to integrate technology with its own AI effectively. While Amazon has argued that it is due to the incompetence of those employees, they claim that this issue no longer plagues Alexa LLM.

However, there is still another obstacle hindering the development of the new Alexa, causing delays and failures to meet objectives. This is attributed to Amazon’s organizational structure, dividing development teams that lead to conflicts and complexities.

Recently, Mihail Eric, a former researcher who left the company in 2021, took to his social media to criticize Amazon’s structure and obsession with product launches, which affected the progress of Alexa development. He mentioned that if his research had been adequately supported, it could have sparked the recent LLM trend before ChatGPT.

TLDR: Despite the hype surrounding LLM technologies, Amazon’s Alexa LLM falls short due to organizational issues and a lack of technological integration, which hinders its development and competitiveness in the AI Assistant market.
