The Self-Professed CFO Zone: A Company Lacking Self-Created Franchise Games, Movies, and Anime Since Inception.

Hiroki Totoki, the CEO of Sony, in an interview with the Financial Times, highlighted an interesting point by stating that Sony (the company) lacks a significant amount of intellectual property in the form of franchises for movies, games, and anime that they have nurtured from the start. This is an issue that the company will need to address moving forward.

Although Totoki may be referring to franchises across all forms of entertainment, fans of PlayStation games may find this interview disheartening, as there are many old game franchises that fans are eager to see Sony revive, such as Resistance, Arc the Lad, Gravity Rush, Siren, Infamous, Killzone, Ico, and Wild Arms, just to name a few.

IGN noted that Totoki’s interview also contained hints that Sony may only have a few major franchises on par with Mario, with Spider-Man being possibly the only comparable franchise within the Sony umbrella.

TLDR: Sony’s CEO acknowledged the company’s lack of original intellectual property across various entertainment mediums, prompting fans to hope for the revival of beloved game franchises and raising questions about the depth of Sony’s major franchises compared to industry giants like Mario.
