Transforming Game Development Processes: Square Enix Unveils Ambitious Game Quality Enhancement Endeavors

According to a Bloomberg report, Takashi Kiryu, the chairman of Square Enix, announced a comprehensive review of the company’s game development system to elevate the quality of their games. This comes after their recent financial results announcement.

Kiryu stated that they would decrease the use of outsourcing in game development and focus more on internally developed large-scale games, aiming to enhance both game quality and company profits. The details of the new game development system are expected to be revealed in the next fiscal year and implemented in April 2024, aligning with the company’s new budget year.

In the company’s financial report, net sales and revenue from digital business decreased by 2.6% compared to the previous year (from April to December 2023), categorized as follows:

– HD games saw an increase in revenue due to the release of games such as Final Fantasy XVI, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster.
– MMO games experienced a decrease in revenue as interest in Final Fantasy XIV declined, partly due to the delayed release of the new expansion, Dawntrail.
– Mobile games also witnessed a decrease in revenue, despite the introduction of games like Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis.

TLDR: Square Enix’s chairman, Takashi Kiryu, revealed plans to review and enhance their game development system, focusing on internally developed large-scale games to improve game quality and company profits. The details will be disclosed next fiscal year, with implementation scheduled for April 2024. Their recent financial report shows an increase in revenue from HD games but a decline in revenue from MMO and mobile games.
