Reports indicate that Samsung Electronics is preparing to announce that the company has secured approval for funding of approximately 6-7 billion dollars from the United States government in the CHIPS Act chip manufacturing plant support program. This funding will be used by Samsung for the construction of four semiconductor factories in Taylor, Texas, where the company plans to invest around 17 billion dollars. These facilities will include a chip manufacturing plant, a chip packaging plant, and a research and development center.
Samsung has denied commenting on the aforementioned reports. Other major semiconductor companies that have recently announced government funding from the United States include Intel, receiving 8.5 billion dollars in grants and an additional 11 billion dollars in loans, and TSMC, receiving 6.6 billion dollars in subsidies and another 5 billion dollars in loans.
