Grand Opening of GlobalFoundries’ Expansive Multi-Billion Dollar Manufacturing Facility in Singapore

GlobalFoundries, a leading chip manufacturing company, has announced the opening of a new $4 billion factory in Singapore today. This move comes as a response to the increasing demand for chips, with the industry projected to grow exponentially over the next decade.

In 2021, GlobalFoundries revealed their plans to expand their Singapore facility, adding a capacity of 300mm wafer and producing an additional 450,000 wafers per year. This expansion will bring GlobalFoundries’ total production capacity in the country to 1.5 million wafers.

Established as a separate entity from AMD in 2009, GlobalFoundries has emerged as the world’s third-largest chip manufacturing company, trailing behind TSMC and Samsung. The new factory in Singapore spans an impressive 23,000 square meters and is expected to create 1,000 new jobs, supplementing their current team of 4,500 employees in Singapore.
