Google Play Games has finally made its way to PC with a big announcement in 2021 and full availability in 2022. Initially limited to Android games playable on Windows, it has now expanded to include genuine PC games.
Most recently, Google revealed its plans for Google Play Games on PC, including:
– Google Play Games on PC will reach GA status, shedding its Beta label, by 2025.
– Support for gameplay on machines using AMD CPUs equivalent to Intel CPUs.
– PC game developers will utilize the Play Games PC SDK to distribute games on Play Games, a worthy competitor to Steam, managed through Play Console. Examples of games already available include Genshin Impact, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Sonic Rumble, ODIN: VALHALLA RISING.
– Android games on Google Play Games will be playable on PC by default. Developers who do not wish to target the PC market must opt-out themselves, with games displaying playable and optimized statuses tailored for PC.
– Addition of a game sidebar for customizable controls, with virtual buttons placed on the screen.
– Support for multi-account single-gameplay and simultaneous gameplay (multi-instance).
