id Software and Bethesda have officially announced the game Doom: The Dark Ages, following previous rumors. It is a prequel storyline set before the events of the 2016 reboot of Doom, recounting the history of the protagonist Doomslayer in the past. In this installment, the protagonist is clad in a medieval style with animal fur cloaks, a Shield Saw, piloting giant mechs, and riding dragons!
The development team has stated that this game draws inspiration from the original Doom game in 1993, which focused on close-quarters combat in enclosed spaces but also introduces new gameplay formats. Such as piloting the giant mech Atlan, riding the Mecha Dragon in epic sky battles.
The game is tentatively scheduled for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, following Microsoft’s new strategy of developing cross-platform games (Doom Eternal’s previous installment was released on PS4/PS5 before Bethesda’s acquisition by Microsoft in 2020).
