Square Enix has announced the remake of the classic Dragon Quest games with HD-2D graphics. Today, at Nintendo Direct, they unveiled the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, set to release on November 14, 2024, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
But that’s not all, as Square Enix has also revealed plans to remake Dragon Quest I & II with HD-2D graphics, scheduled for release in 2025. This completes the brave trilogy of Erdrick, spanning all three generations.
Dragon Quest III is a prequel to the first game, telling the legend of the first Erdrick, the son of the original hero Ortega, who must journey to fight the demon Baramos. The original version was released in 1998 on the Super Famicom, with many ports to other platforms.
This remake follows the HD-2D art style seen in games like Octopath Traveler and Live a Live that have been remade before.
TLDR: Square Enix announces Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake at Nintendo Direct, with plans for remakes of Dragon Quest I & II. Completing the legendary Erdrick trilogy in high-definition visuals.
